Choosing the Right Adaptive Underwear: A Quick Guide
The underwear collection at EaseWear covers three overlapping needs - easier dressing, incontinence protection, and products that solve both at once. Whether you need side-opening access, built-in absorbency, or a garment that combines both, there is a style in this range to suit.
If dressing is the main challenge, whether due to arthritis, post-surgery, stroke, or caring for someone else, look for our side-opening or flat-opening styles. These use Velcro fastenings so underwear can be put on and taken off without standing, bending, or pulling. They are suitable for men and women and work well in care-assisted settings.
If incontinence is the main need, choose based on absorbency level. Our 200ml style suits light to moderate leaks during daily activity. The 360ml unisex briefs suit moderate leaks and longer wear. The 500ml men's style handles heavy leakage including fecal incontinence, and can be combined with our washable insert pad for maximum protection.
Many customers use both, an easy-access style for daytime dressing combined with a higher-absorbency incontinence brief for outings or overnight. If you're unsure what combination suits your situation, our NZ-based team is happy to help.
Underwear FAQs
Which incontinence underwear is best for heavy leaks or overnight use?
Yes, our premium washable incontinence underwear is designed to handle moderate to heavy incontinence, holding up to 500ml on its own.
If extra protection is needed (such as for overnight use or long outings), you can add our washable incontinence pad, which provides an additional 150ml of absorbency. Together, they offer peace of mind without compromising comfort.
Does it feel bulky or look noticeable under clothes?
No, the fabric is designed to be slim and discreet, with a soft cotton feel.
Even the styles with built-in absorbent layers are made to look and feel like everyday underwear, so you can wear them under jeans, trousers, or sleepwear without worry.
How do I choose the right absorbency level?
Think about when and how your leaks happen, then match them to the level below:
Very light leaks:
a few drops when you cough, sneeze, laugh or lift something, our washable reusable pad is a great choice. It’s slim, comfortable, and holds up to 150ml, ideal for small daily leaks or extra reassurance.
Moderate leaks:
small gushes when you walk quickly, do light exercise, carry shopping or go up and down stairs, choose underwear designed for 200ml or 360ml absorbency.
If you’d like additional protection, you can add the washable pad for an extra 150ml, making it suitable for longer wear.
Heavy leaks or overnight:
frequent leaking even when you’re not very active, or worrying about waking up wet, our premium washable incontinence underwear holds up to 500ml on its own.
For maximum confidence, you can combine it with the 150ml pad, or another incontinence product (such as a disposable diaper/brief) for maximum protection and confidence.
Is this easy to put on and take off for someone who needs help dressing?
Yes. Many of our styles are side-opening or flat-opening, with Velcro buttons, so they can be dressed easily while sitting or lying down.
They’re ideal for seniors, people with limited mobility, or carers assisting someone else.
Can men and women both wear these styles?
Yes, many of our underwear styles are unisex and designed to fit all body types.
We also have men’s-specific boxers and women’s underwear for those who prefer a tailored fit.
Will it irritate sensitive skin or cause discomfort?
No, our underwear is made with soft, breathable cotton layers, with gentle seams and no harsh elastic at the legs or waist.
Can it be worn with pads or does it have a built-in pad?
We offer both options, and they can work together.
Many of our underwear styles come with built-in absorbent layers for moderate to heavy protection.
You can also use our washable and reusable pad with any underwear, including regular briefs or adaptive styles, to add extra absorbency when needed.
Some designs, like our side-opening or one-piece underwear, are especially helpful for easy dressing, and the pad can be used with them too.
